PLANNING FOR YOUR SESSION
A deposit is required at the time of booking (may be waived in certain circumstances) and the balance is due on the day of the session. Deposits are non-refundable and are valid for up to one year. An additional charge may apply for groups larger than 5 people. I prefer working in a casual and natural environment, where you and your child feel comfortable and at ease. I can work in or around your home, or at a location of your choice. Working in a familiar environment allows your child to relax and be his/herself. This then allows me to capture images that truly represent your child. My service area is within 25 miles of the Hubbard area. Beyond this, a Distance/Travel Fee may apply. Distance/Travel Fees are non-refundable and are required at the time of booking. Please contact me for further details. Sometimes a shoot will need to be rescheduled due to weather, or personal emergencies. Please provide at least 24 hours notice whenever possible. Rescheduling will be a priority, but is subject to availability. I am currently working on bringing the studio to you– backdrop, lights, and all! A studio set-up is used for Pregnancy and Newborn sessions, or upon request. Approximately 10-15 square feet is needed when the studio set-up is used. I always photograph in both black and white and color, so there is no need to decide in advance. Digital capabilities allow for minor touch-ups, so there’s no need to worry about a scratch or stain. We are always happy to discuss any ideas or questions you may have prior to your session… Feel free to give me a call!

WHAT TO WEAR
Simple and comfortable! By staying with the basics for your clothing selections the focus is on you and not what you are wearing. Some clothing recommendations include overalls, jeans, khakis, solid color shirts, and simple dresses. Neutral colors are best. Please stay away from designs, logos & words. In family or group settings, matching is not necessary—coordinate the group as one unit. Avoid mixing patterns and contrasting colors. If your child is going to wear shoes, try to choose shoes that do not have words, designs or lights on them. Whenever possible, bare feet are the best!

WHAT TO EXPECT
During the session, I will take the time to get to know you or/and your children so everyone feels comfortable and at ease. I encourage everyone to be themselves. Standard location sessions are allotted two hours (most run 45 – 80 minutes). A fee may apply for sessions exceeding two hours.
I request that only those to be photographed are present on the day of the session. The results of the photo session are hugely dependent on the kids’ comfort level with the photographer. I strive to allow your kids to forget they’re “on the job,” and just be themselves.

COPYRIGHT VS. PRINT RELEASE?
Let’s get all technical for a second and break down some definitions:
A copyright is owned by the person who creates the work. From the second I snap an image, it legally belongs to me as the photographer, or “author”, unless I sign it away otherwise. Copyright essentially gives me the exclusive rights to determine how the image should be displayed and distributed. I am also the only person who can make alterations to my work. Since my name is associated with the images, I want to have complete control of how they look to ensure they are in line with my photography style that you are hiring me for! Images covered in filters or bad crops can grossly misrepresent my brand.
A print release is different in that it gives someone permission to reproduce my images for their own personal use. Personal use is the key term here. If a client wanted to make prints, canvases, albums, t-shirts, etc, they are more than welcome to do that for themselves and their entire family. They are, however, prohibited from using them for commercial reasons. For example, if you were approached by the Editor of Washingtonian Bride & Groom because they wanted to buy your brand new wedding profile picture for the cover of their next edition, you would have to decline as they are not yours to sell.
In short, with a print release:
You CAN:
+ Post them on all forms of social media.
+ Print an unlimited amount of them in any form (photo, canvas, album, t-shirt, etc.) .
+ Share them with your family so they can do the same!
You CANNOT:
+ Edit or alter the images in any way, including cropping and filters.
+ Claim the work as your own.
+ Use them for commercial gain.
Once it’s been explained, I haven’t had a single issue! Clients realize, in the end, that they truly only wanted the right to use their images for personal reasons and that is what they are getting!
